Daniel Gestri BFA Communication Design Thesis Spring 2018
NASA
I will be presenting a comprehensive rebrand of National Aeronautics and Space Administration, or NASA. This rebrand includes a new logo mark, a custom typeface family, and a series of six illustrated posters. Another physical takeaway is the printed brand guidelines.
I will contextualize the importance of the project by presenting NASA history and the history of the administration and its logo mark. I examine the visual language used in past NASA marks and present my logo in context. I also examine the ethics behind NASA and their mission as it evolved through the 20th century, as well as discussing the long term implications of a successful space program, and how it can lead to better collaboration between nations.
This branding project is intended to update NASA for the 21st century, with the long term goals of inspiring future astronauts and securing better funding for NASA.
This project demonstrates my multifaceted skills as a designer, illustrator, and typographer. It is a strong example of the kind of work I want to do in the future.
