Tropico, CA is a publication that recreates certain aspects of place in relation to the mediated images and sustained fictions of Los Angeles, CA. Primarily looking towards cinema, television, and notions of hyperreality, this project operates within the scope of Los Angeles as a paradisiacal place that is continuously constructed through its natural and artificial landscape. Tropico is a re-envisioning of a city as a portable paradise and performative place caught in the space between fantasy and reality where the playful hand of the audience is the foundation upon which it exists.
