Karylynn Keppol BFA Illustration Thesis Spring 2016
Meaning Stuffed in an Old Skin
Karylynn’s work is inspired by storytelling and magic. As an aspiring children’s book illustrator, she makes pictures that are narrative. She loves heavy textured, detailed work with bold colors, and figures that can be put into whimsical scenes. For her illustration pieces, most of her images are done with ballpoint pens and ink drawings, mixed with digital coloring. Her sculpture work stems from the same illustrative desire, and mostly consists of ceramics and paper mache. Kary enjoys making animals and uses sculpture as a means to study their shapes and really learn how to build their figures. She wants to create images that spark stories in her audiences’ imagination. She wants to show scenes of fantasy that step outside everyday findings. Magic is so important to her, because it makes the impossible possible.
