Espies: From Peripheral Encounter to Affective Experience
My thesis project, entitled Espies: From Peripheral Encounter to Affective Experience, seeks to challenge the boundaries of what might be considered innovative design by updating the function of printed matter to operate as a digital user interface in what I believe to be a more holistic communication system. The word “espies” holds many meanings. Foremost it is to catch sight of something in the distance. For the purposes of this installation, the meaning belongs to the designers, artist and makers who, as innovators, embrace holistic multimedia in sight of a richer lived experience for all of us. It is our human faculties, our body and the senses, that shape our understanding of the world. To deny the body this genuine function in favor of the singular experience of digital alternatives is to deny insightful innovation.
