Troy Mathews BFA Painting & Drawing Thesis Fall 2016

For this body of work these paintings act as a record and a documentation of my process, thoughts. and my understanding of my surroundings. Each drip of paint, brushstroke, line, the shoe prints on the canvas shows where I was when working on each painting. Each work is based on how I interpret the information I take in and process through my dyslexic way of understanding. Whether it be walking around, reading a book, watching TV or listening to something, when I enter the studio or my sketchbook, all the things I’ve encountered have the potential to become paintings. Working in the studio provided the time and space to take in the thoughts of others and merge them with my own interpretation of the world.
