This work is about the lives of King Tut and the basketball player Allen Iverson and how I see that they lived similarities lives. They were relatively young men when forced into the public sphere. The were also iconic figures during and after their careers in the spotlight. They both had incidents that allowed people to conspire against them but they also both left a legacy that impacted their social worlds. When I was young I had a best friend that saved all his money to buy a pair of Allen Iverson shoes. They became his prize possession, something that he treasured. After every wear, he would wash them with a toothbrush and put them back in the box that they came in much like a tomb. For us during that time, we aspired to be like Iverson on the basketball court. His shoes were like a direct connection to him. This year Allen Iverson was inducted into the hall of fame. This induction into the hall of fame was much like King Tut being put into his pyramid. Both are ways of remembering others achievements. This work for me allows a curiosity that still invites me to research more about and find the other similarities of this two lives shared throughout time.
