Out on my Own is a 32 page Picture Book Dummy Following Cristal on her journey to leave the only home she’s ever
known, and how she seeks her family out for knowledge and comfort. The story takes place in a Latino Futuristic setting,
which was really important for me and my practice as an artist, imagining a positive future for marginalized peoples
alongside highlighting my culture. This picture book dummy has four completed Illustrations, 3 spreads and one cover,
while the rest of the book remains in a rough greyscale. In this project I achieved all that I had proposed back in November,
and even completed endpages for the book, which was an extra goal I had set myself if I had the time.

Making this book has taught me so much about myself, my process, and literary illustration as a whole. From
learning how to write for picture books, showing vs telling with my illustration, using vignettes to enhance storytelling,
and so much more. I’ve poured my heart and soul into this project, and I cannot wait to share it with you all.
