Warp Quilts: An Investigation into Art and Function
I am interested in the ways that objects and people affect each other, as an exploration of our relationship to the world. Quilts are malleable - when we use them, they change shape. My project investigates how the use of quilts can inform the way they are made.
To create these quilts I traced diamond and hexagon templates, some of the many specialized rulers available to quilters, onto fabric to form repeating patterns. Then I manipulated the fabric to reflect the daily use of the finished objects, distorting the patterns I had created. Last, I stitched the disrupted patterns into place.
