Shannon Delahanty BFA Printmaking Thesis Spring 2013
The threshold serves to be a metaphor for various locations of change. It offers an image for the relationship of ideas and the area which separates them. My thesis project, Found at the Openings, exists at this idea of threshold. What lies between what is said and believed, an event and its interpretation, is loss and an empty space in which the known constantly transforms. My series of mixed media sculptures documents this space where memory and imagination build bridges across emptiness. It draws from theories of childhood development and psychoanalysis to discuss how we traverse distance to bring things closer together.
