Sally Gotfredson BFA Intermedia Thesis Spring 2013
The use of architectural metaphors to describe cyber-spaces create a contradictory correlation between what people consider real or virtual. The web is indifferent to the atoms that make up physical spaces, which complicates and relieves the conflict between images and objects.
Using the mind as a metaphor for the virtual realm and body as the physical realm, I am interested in seeing where the two realms collide, and how previously distinct boundaries are less concrete.
My habit of online shopping has evolved into a part of my art practice, as well as leading me on a rich and diverse, sometimes seemingly divergent path of research which is culminated in my thesis exhibition. It also is a straightforward way to examine the parts of digital life that have physical counterparts.
