The House Divided
The House Divided is an exploration of mythic narrative, combining American folklore, gothic horror and comic book irreverence. Introducing a tale of murder, mayhem and malarkey framed in an alternate 1867 America, wherein one can find haunted houses, cetacean surgery, mythical malcontents and ultimately a struggle for the soul of a fractured nation.
Traditional pencil drawings, digitally finished and colored, are presented with original text detailing the characters and locations key to the story in a guide book to the narrative, intended as a first look and character design project for the story of The House Divided. This work asks, what is the nature of myth, and from where does belief spring? What happens when myth becomes fact? What happens when our American consensus of reality becomes a tangible object, and who should be its keeper?
