A composition of sixteen modal flows, the work deploys the craft elements fragmentation and variation at the levels of image, narrative, and voice to cultivate a textural poetic experience. A background sense of sound and rhythm provide the foundation for the work’s engagement with language’s temporality and its effects on subject formation. As the reader moves thru the work, allusion populates the developing inter-textual-sonic background. The break—-the thematic break and the break that is the blank space—-is repeatedly foregrounded while motif and rhyme create continuity amidst the brokenness of the lines, sentences, stanzas, and cantos. The work seeks balance, harmony, and even dreams of justice. The work’s arrangement (partially by demonstrating an inversion of the structure) suggests a musical affective solution to the problem of creating out of a broken past through an impossible present a coherent future.
