The Formless Island is a magical realist / literary fiction novella told in first-person limited perspective following the mental decline of two companions aloft in a balloon over the Pacific. The protagonist faces his death for an increasingly delirious number of days. Central to the work is the philosophical journey through the shambles of a life, the unrectifiability of memory, the possibility of escape from the modern world, redemption via disintegration, and the companionship of the present with the deeds of the prehistoric past.
