My project contains three objects titled: Layers, Transformation, and Becoming Visible. I created a pattern called “hexagon tumbler” and used it as the plan to explore different making applications. The design creates a double texture pattern by making continuous folds along the entire piece of fabric. This project is an exploration of the idea of having no wrong side, starting from the idea of a right side and a wrong side in quilting, and using muslin as the material base with the geometric language of points and lines. My process is directly informed by the traditional craft of hand sewing and the connections between my family’s traditional craftsmanship and the discussion of art and craft; objects that have a symbolic or abstract plan, and objects that have a functional purpose.
