Joe Noreen BFA Photography Thesis Fall 2013
My interest lies in portraying visceral, highly subjective realities rather than remotely objective ones as a means of validating the experience of the marooned individual, who is often squelched amid the societal cacophony of status, affiliation, and dubious “community.” Working with symbolism and surrealistic aesthetics, I create work that is inspired by my nervous system, subconscious, and the unstinting struggle to exist as a highly feeling person in a calloused and obdurate society. While oftentimes incorporating honeyed swathes of dark humor, the work is always predicated upon visceral honesty.
