It is my firm belief that our education system must change drastically in order to better the way American students are taught. I am afraid the public institutions, trying to make a drastic change, will be courted by corporations and changed for the worst. The artwork for this thesis was created in order to address some issues and failures I see within the current compulsory public education system of America. The paper is a research component used to gather ideas and inspiration for the work. Much of this research has been focused on the field of pedagogy and educational theory as well as the history of compulsory public education. The body of work is comprised of sculptures, performances, video, and installation. Each work was created to address separate problems within the structure of education.
