In this essay I will be addressing questions related to our experience with contemporary media devices, particularly laptops and Smartphones. Through the process of directed and thoughtful questioning of these objects, I will point out the need for self reflection and the questioning of ourselves in relation to these devices. Likewise, I will be explaining the value of continual questioning (questions that lead to further questions), versus questions with definitive answers, as it relates to our understanding of human experience. The questions that frame the work are:

How do we relate to these technologies?
and
What do they indicate about us?
And How do we relate to ourselves in their presence?

I will be looking at Existential and Phenomenological thinkers and relating these ideas to media theories about human relation to technology in order to argue a line of thought that acts as an entrance point in understanding the work I have created. I will relate the phenomenological qualities of the mirror to media devices in order to suggest that they have similar qualities and that we might be able to see, in them, something of ourselves. I will then argue for the greater meaning of the work beyond the concept of
these objects.
