The State of Print
Is print dead? This seems to be a re-occurring debate that gets more heated as every year passes. Technology, marketing, and economic recession are just a few of the factors contributing to the change in the publishing landscape. I am interested in the current state of print and in helping people understand where print can go, as a medium, as well as the cultural relevance and importance it still carries. I believe that print is indeed alive, and that the world of print is thriving more than ever. Due to advancements in technology print will arguably never die. With these advancements many publications being originally produced solely on paper, are now being distributed digitally as well. This idea known as multiplatform, offers new directions, and places, for publishers to go. Consequently the marketability of a publication skyrockets with the choice of paper or digital forms. This paper is intended to explore these ideas, as well as emphasize the continuing importance of the field of print at this juncture in time. Ender magazine is a publication I produced, and will pull parallels from to help to illustrate and prove this point.
