Refrigerator: More Than Food explores the relationship we have with our food and each other. The project is presented in a very small edition of hand bound books with color photographs and text. Through the grace of willing participants, I photographed the insides of 25 different refrigerators, only a small snippet of Portland’s population. I utilize the refrigerator as a guide to encourage self-reflection and discussion on the topics of food and community. I experienced many interactions during the creation of this project and want to share the experience and also gain more by sending the books across the United States at the end of the thesis show. Once out of my hands, the books will continue to interact with people, encouraging thoughts about what we eat and how we eat it while linking people together to create a community around the books.
