An exploration of the relationship between sight, thought, and understanding through visual surprise and small acts of viewer participation. I wanted to make a body of work that was self-referential, that had a subtle internal logic that allowed the viewer to interpret meaning through the relationship of one work to the next. I used strategies of material transformation, placement within the gallery space, and slight acts of viewer participation to alter the way we see and understand objects.
I learn about what the objects mean as I work with them. The time I spend with them gives them life. The meticulous nature of my work allows me to understand what I am doing as well as pulling the viewer in through detail, asking them to stop and comprehend the busy acts of my hand.
