The Ladies of Gee’s Bend

PNCA welcomed four ladies of famed quilt-making community of Gee’s Bend, Alabama – Mary Lee Bendolph, Louisiana Bendolph, Loretta Bennett and Nettie Young – spoke about the quilts they make, their history, process.

Hailed by the New York Times as “some of the most miraculous works of modern art America has produced.” The “Quilts of Gee’s Bend” exhibition has received tremendous international acclaim. The exhibition is showing in Houston before moving on to the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York and other museums. This lecture is in conjunction with the Elizabeth Leach Gallery and the accompanying exhibition, Gee’s Bend from October 4–27, 2007. The exhibition features recent quilts and prints.
