Dog Ears :Trans Sensibility Content
Transgender art, like gay and lesbian art, has no identifiable traits that make it outwardly transgender. Going off that definition, the artist making it must be transgender (closeted or otherwise) for it to be transgender art that speaks on or draws from the experience of transness. There is no unifying aesthetic of transgender art, just like there is no unifying agreement in the trans community when it comes to traits outside of transness that can be used to stereotypically define what any individual trans person must be. There is no right or wrong way to be trans; it is simply a state of being like any other. Transgender identity is often a constant, ongoing struggle of recognition and self-determination because of outside factors. Dog Ears: Trans Sensibility Content asks: what does it mean to be an artist creating art with trans sensibilities, ideas, and experiences?
