Roger Schuff BFA Illustration Thesis Spring 2023
Roger (he/they) is an illustrator and animator based in Portland, Oregon. With a passion for motion design, surrealism, graphic design, cover art, and editorial illustration, he is always on the lookout for new and exciting projects. Whether it’s something challenging or a simple task, he is always up for the job. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from the University of Oregon and a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Illustration from Pacific Northwest College of Arts. His artwork is conceptual, contemplative and moody, characterized by graphic/painterly illustrations and mixed media with key strengths for quick turnarounds and visual metaphors. His work often explores themes of existentialism, psychology, and cosmology. He has been featured by Argyle Winery in the Art of Sparkling 2020 collection and has collaborated with Blanchet House, Willamette Week, and the prestigious International Pinot Noir Celebration. Outside of work, he is a devoted pet parent to a fluffy Toy Pomeranian named Loki and a black kitty named Déjà Vu. When he’s not making art you can catch him rewatching the Office for the millionth time.
is a collection of 5 surreal illustrations that delve into the human perception of the cosmos and our place within it. This editorial visual essay explores existential themes and universal emotions that are shared across cultures and religions. Through an interdisciplinary approach that includes scientific, artistic, literary, political, and historical contexts, this thesis offers a unique perspective on our relationship with the universe. The 5 horizontal illustrations, each a physical fine art print, are a culmination of extensive research and creative experimentation.
