En Route: Road Trips as Metaphor for Freedom
Upon reflecting on my past it became clear to me how important freedom is to me. We exercise freedom when we are acting as autonomous beings, when movement becomes purposeful and premeditated; it is the change from wanderlust to mobilizing. My intention for this work was to evoke a feeling of wanderlust, to tell people to go out and look for America. When you’re in movement and escape your province, you are seeing something new every moment. You become fully awake, fully present. Freedom describes the transcendental nature of movement, and movement acknowledges freedom. I believe the freest occupation one can embark on is a road trip.
