Protest Through Creative Expression: I took four protest songs from the 1960’s and 70’s, and recontextualized their message to visually address current issues that my generation is dealing with such as women’s rights, economy, environmental reform, and war. These themes and the songs that I chose aided in the development of four protest posters.
This wall displays the creative process I went through during my thesis semester. This is the meat of my work, and the most important part of my final presentation to display to visualize not only my work and my process, but my growth as well.
Addressing the issue of women's rights and women's health in the 2012 Presidential Election with the help of Bob Dylan's song 'The Times They Are a Changin' '
Inspired by the Occupy Movement and Creedance Clearwater Revival's song 'Fortunate Son', I have done a protest poster on our struggling economy, and the frustration I feel that we are continually promised that the wealth with 'trickle down.'
My final work was digitally printed at 24 x 37 in posters and then hung.
Inspired by Joni Mitchell's song 'Big Yellow Taxi,' I create a protest poster addressing environmental reform, and displayed the delicacy and deterioation of our planet in the form of a quilt.
I took Marvin Gaye's song 'What's Goin On' and tried to mirror my frustration and my confusion on the topic of war and violent conflict in this protest poster.
