Morgan Klauber Intermedia Thesis Portfolio Fall 2022
Through the collection and distillation of imagery culled from various social media sites, I have become my own pseudo-algorithm. In order to dissect what images are the most prevalent online and which I am most attracted to, I have spent an ungodly amount of time scouring the Internet for interesting images. After the initial image collection process, I categorized said images based on things like general subject matter, color palette, and images which include text. Having collected the images and texts from these social media sites, the imagery I was being exposed to became more and more insular, and in turn the images I was depicting grew more interconnected. Although I am not interested in critiquing social media as a whole, I am interested in interrogating which images are most prevalent in these digital spaces, as well as how a viewer generally interacts with an image online versus a physical painted image. The translation of a digital image into a painting is a way for me to slow down my own media consumption, but it also functions as a way to slow down the viewer’s perception of the image.
