Kate White BFA Communication Design Thesis Fall 2014

Idlewild

The visual thesis work will explore depression throughout four generations of women, three of which currently live with the disorder (the fourth being too young to determine). I will be screenprinting textile patterns, the variations in each pattern will signify the shift in experience for each era. The fabric itself will relate the overall femininity of the project, as textiles are frequently considered the domain of the female and succinctly relate as such. By examining and relating my personal and familial experience with depression, I am able to achieve further clarity and understanding of the past and potential future of this disorder.
