Installation view Left Side
Tote Bags and Books
I am going to speak first about why my thesis is installed this way.
The largest space is dedicated to these shopping totes. They are in mass and multiples
there are 56 tacked down to the wall as a display strategies so a viewer or shopper can see a variety of styles each style only produced in editions of three.. Twenty more are free hanging on pegs. This invites the viewer to touch and perhaps shop. because it resembles a store enough to invite this
The bags are displayed from the ground to the ceiling utilizing all the possible vertical space making it possible to see them from almost any vantage point in the area.
This is a common tactic used on the walls in Target They can advertise to the whole store this way…its a great way to direct guests
There are display shelves that are hung in the space between 48 inches to 72 inches vertical, the space that is most easily accessed by your average female shopper. There is yellow around it to draw you into the shelves spacing and its the same yellow in the bags.
There are books on the shelves that contain images of actions and observations I have collected over the semester they are in multiples and set up in a way that could invite others to look inside or read. They may even invite the viewer to believe they are take aways.
on the right There are 3 iPhone photographs that are in the books as well as the case. They are blown up in a way to advertise what one might find in the case. from across the room.
Then there is the case below it.
It is lined with logos of the stores in which I’ve displayed my work in and are reminiscent of the way logos may appear on a shopping bag
The case contains the same items as the adjacent wall but in a way that is off limits to anyone touching them. perhaps making them more precious and nodding to the fact the shelf ones are able to be handled and perhaps take.
Also included are tags that contain campaign themes, actions I took, objects I made and the places the items were used or dropped in. As well as dates. The right is closer to an archive while the left is closer to a retail store but they are both ways to advertise.
