Perfect is about the constant overwhelming pressure I feel from my OCD to be perfect or to make something perfect. The small plate printed on a full sheet of paper signifies how large this issue weighs on me and dictates everything I do. It also relates to the unattainable ideal that I will never reach but must continually strive for. The small plate is meant to show a detailed focus of something little in juxtaposition to the visual weight of the large piece of paper. It creates a dynamic of struggle between something so small feeling so big. This relates directly to how my OCD fixates on minor issues to the point where they become monumental problems. In this piece, I challenged my own perception of what perfect is. I wrote the word perfect with my left hand so I had less control over how the letters turned out. This creates an interesting contradiction. My brain reads the word perfect in imperfect lettering, which makes my OCD mad because it’s not perfect, but it reads perfect.
