footnotes (recording of the radical sisters)

“footnotes,” part of Ashley’s current /ˈpro͞oviNG ˌɡround[s]/ series, is a multimedia installation that consists of “elevated” footnotes conjured from critical autotheoretical musings printed on charmeuse, georgette and linen; single channel videos with spoken word and bluegrass music; curated stories, songs and archives including a book, bright leaf tobacco leaves and a ghostlike photograph printed on chiffon; and discarded and disrupted footnotes, historical newspaper articles and archives.

Hazel Armetta Aldridge Stanfield, my great grandmother, was a child of the Great Depression, single mother and textile mill worker. For this note, she sings songs disrupting the prison-industrial complex and company towns with her sister Mary.
