Women, Theater, and War in Iraq

The MA in Critical Theory and Creative Research in partnership with World Affairs Council of Oregon and the Center for Middle East Studies at PSU present an evening of international literature and cross-cultural connections. Moderated by Tim DuRoche, Director of Programs at the World Affairs Council of Oregon, the conversation with five women in Iraqi theater will focus on the role of art in the reconfiguration of political realities, the relation of making and acting, and the question of gender in theaters of operation. The participating Iraqi directors and playwrights include Alaa Najim Abdullah, Hayat Haidar Mohammed Ali, Kholod Jabbar, Obeid Mary Al-Amiri, Azhaar Ali Hussein, Hawar Sharif. The conversation will be followed by an open question-and-answer session and general discussion.
