Aimee Sitarz BFA Photography Thesis Spring 2017

Using film photography as well as alternative processes, this body of work comes from a practice of mindfulness skills…an attempt to make sense of the world around me. A view from my emotional perspective. The images are interrupted, they are resistant, but they invite you into my world. The gap between the double exposure, a moment impossible to inhabit without photography, a moment between moments – it is here that I want you to exist with me. I have constructed photographs with layers and color combinations on a flat surface, in order to express this space with the utmost awareness. Nature (or, that which I see) inspires me, puts me in an emotional state so that an urge comes about to make something, but I wanted to start with the present and subtract everything from that, until I reach the foundation of truth. I believe that, through formal elements constructed with awareness, not with calculation, but led by high intuition, these basic forms from my perception, supplemented by layers of color, have become two dimensional metaphors, using an abstract language to communicate a twisted emotional perspective.
