Untarnished

Untarnished is a woven sculpture that features manufactured aging to challenge the value that society puts on preservation and the desire to keep things pristine. Weaving in holes and embedded wire, the sculpture is transformed through a process of oxidation; it is intended to look like something that will continue to corrode and fall apart. The intentional deterioration enacts the loss of control as a maker.  This transformation represents the forces that our bodies are subjected to everyday. The cloth shows its strength by acknowledging its wear yet refuses to be ashamed.
