Tara Williams BFA Painting Thesis Fall 2015
Beached: Our Oceans, Ourselves
My thesis project addresses three main concerns: the shift of apex predators in the warming Arctic, the misunderstood sharks and their vulnerability to fishing pressures, and the dramatic importance of keystone species, such as Sea Otters and Sea Stars. The paper follows my life chronologically from my earliest memories in aquariums and playing at the beach, to being a surfing pre-teen, and then a marine biology student as I entered first year of college. My studio practice represents my research subjects.
