Gabrielle Koski-Gomez BFA Sculpture Thesis Spring 2015

Wellspring

Memories are not static things. I am digging into this proposition, and pushing this concept of memory’s malleability further still. I am a sculptor building things with my hands and creating something from nothing. Through stop-motion animation, I reworking my own memories and in doing so bring them further away from the originals memory. I have chosen stop-motion specifically because, like memories normally thought of as still and static moments similarly like puppets. I am bringing still puppets to life, putting them in motion just like memories are in flux. My thesis Wellspring is an explorative test of how to express these ideas of memory through the technique and aesthetics of animation, using the personal as subject matter.
