Scripted Spaces: Baroque To Disco

Scripted Spaces surround us in urban environments and guide the way we navigate public space. Their roots can be traced to the cathedrals of the baroque period in Europe where their visual appeal, based on special effects, was so successful in impacting the viewer that they spread globally. Today we see similar techniques used in the architecture of entertainment venues such as: amusement parks, shopping malls and discotheques.

This paper identifies and examines the way artists and designers use strategies employed in the scripted space through installation art in order to create an ecstatic environment for an audience.
