The MFA in Applied Craft and Design welcomes Lew Oliver, award-winning designer and urban planner, as part of the 2010-2011 Graduate Visiting Artist Lecture Series. He will speak on “Urban Craft and the Built Environment: Toward a New Aesthetic.”

Lew Oliver is an award-winning designer and urban planner who has helped pioneer sustainable community design in the U.S., Europe, and South America, with a focus on vernacular adaptations to climate, innovative green space, alternative energy sources, and native plant stewardship. His latest project is NEST, which the Southface Energy Institute recently announced is set to become one of the most energy-efficient EarthCraft SFRs in the program’s decade-long history. His work has garnered numerous national and international awards, including three prestigious BALA Awards, and has been featured in The New York Times, Metropolis, The Wall Street Journal, Architecture Week, and on Treehugger.com.
