This work explores the presence of an internal definition of self, in contrast to a projected or crafted identity. To that end, I paint larger-than-life images of my wife. Both the scale and subject provide a sense of intimacy, which is crucial to understanding the innate-self. These paintings establish, through my relationship to my spouse, a personal view of the inner-self that is often too banal or human to be idealized and transposed through social media into a created identity. These paintings address the mundane, the forgotten, and the genuine found in people.
