Nicole Buckno BFA Thesis Spring 2013

Video games are an extremely popular form of entertainment, and the culture as a whole is becoming increasingly aware of them and the subculture that surrounds them. Women make up almost half of the people that play games, but are under-represented in both the making of these games and characters within them. In this paper, I examine the harassment that female gamers experience from the community and some important female figures in games with the intent of showing that if games show the community more well-rounded and diverse female characters, the women within the community will be treated more fairly.
