Abigael Tripp BFA Communication Design Thesis Spring 2013
In This Place is a poetry anthology that I created in response to questions about the relationship between place and identity. The project was heavily influenced by research about the way that identity is created and expressed. I decided to use poetry as a case study for the expression of identity as it relates to place. By collecting poem submissions from all around the country and putting them together in an online anthology, I wanted to examine the different ways that people conceive of the places they inhabit. An important aspect to this project is the notion of bioregionalism, which attempts to look at place with a more holistic perspective. It is my hope that by introducing bioregionalism in the context of poetry, readers will begin to look more thoughtfully at their relationship with the environments they inhabit.
