Dualism of the Cognitive Machine: Abstraction
This research and series of works represent my investigation of how I (we) understand a painting as both image and physical object. I am interested in this dualism as it relates to the subjective and objective nature of our perception. Our perception of things is how our cognitive mind makes sense of objects using memory, reason, culture, categorization and language. My method of examining these concerns has been reductive, reducing the painting object to a few elements. I feel that what I am doing is trying to understand and differentiate what I (we) see and what I (we) think we see. I want the work to ask questions of the audience rather than provide answers.
