Keeping Things Inside: The Hidden Transcript of Exotic Dancers

This project describes the personal relationships in the lives of exotic dancers and the way in which the stigma of working in a sex related occupation affects these relationships. Family, significant others, and outside relationships are all examine in relation to the issues they face as a direct result of the stereotypes about exotic dancers and strip clubs.

In this work, specific focus is paid to the interactions and friendships between dancers and the other women they work with inside strip clubs. These relationships have a unique function and characteristics that are crucial to how a woman copes with the emotional labors of working in the sex industry.
Attention is also given to the narrative quality of the photographic images that accompany the research into this topic and how these images convey the experiences of the subjects they contain.
