America, Yes Please!: The Landscape of America Through Legendary Folk
I am showcasing six screen-printed posters to address aspects of the physical and symbolic landscape of America. Through the conduit of folk legends, it is my intention to examine the idea of America as homeland and find common ground between often narrow-sighted positions concerning our country. Part of this endeavor will address confronting America’s controversial history and considering the fluxuations of social interest in folk culture alongside economical and historical developments. The past, when used as learning tool, becomes in valuable for seeking a positive future. It is my aim to encourage a new sense of patriotism; found through conscience thought and empathy. Historically, the format of posters has served as means for reaching a wide audience, by predominantly being viewed in a social setting. The backdrop of the public realm is meant to increase the theme of finding common ground.
