Jenny Hannah Roche BFA Thesis Spring 2009
The title of my body of work is “Momento Mori.” I have created four vertical photographic panels containing a seamless print of five medium format photos of my subject matter. Each panel depicts an abstracted simulation of a significant memory of the individual I photographed. The prints contain an abstract of written narrative in which the subject describes their memory. This project is an exploration of what it means to abandon the notion of the ideal photograph, by loosely crafting by memory rather than present time. It is also an investigation into the relationship between human desire, struggle, and memory. This collaborative effort is to create images with my subjects, questions the roles of the subjective and objective in photography, and attempts to reveal my visual manifestation of desire within their memory.
