A Construct for Imagination Through Sound and Interaction

This text explores the elements of sound and ambient music, and how they create an environment for a listener’s imagination. Research includes the function of music and sound in cinema, the organization of sound based on intention and emotive properties, and creating a physical structure for the engagement of sound as an interactive installation. The resulting project is an electronic instrument that explores sound as a generative medium possible of creating imaginative worlds with no didactic visual component. This project takes the form of an installation of five glowing orbs that hang inside a geodesic dome. The orbs interact with the audience through the participant’s proximity, changing the balance of the installation’s soundtrack.
