Andy Pilarski VS MFA Thesis 2009

Scabrous Laminin

This thesis is a way for me to investigate and articulate my methods of contending with the everyday. I use observation, documentation, and drawing to process my thoughts, release aggression, and develop a better understanding of my relationship to the world. Drawings act as a lens to examine my perception. Abstraction is applied to representational anchor points like figures and architecture while tone is conveyed through non-representational reactionary mark making. I am inspired by cracks in cement, dilapidated billboards, and nature’s infiltration of the man made. There is beauty in the overlooked and under appreciated masked by layers everyday terror. My work mirrors a constant search for balance utilizing various methods that reflect
control and volatility.
