On view at Museum of Contemporary Craft January 19 – March 23, 2008. Presented in context with Metalsmith’s Exhibition in Print (EiP) 2007 and selected objects on view from Framing · The Art of Jewelry, this juried exhibition democratizes the experience of art jewelry. Many of the concepts inherent in pieces of art jewelry remain vague or abstract until the viewer becomes the wearer. But this transmission, and subsequent transformation, is typically not possible in a museum setting. For this exhibition, jurors Rebecca Scheer, Rachelle Thiewes and Namita Gupta Wiggers asked artists to put aside preciousness and create work that audiences are invited to touch, try on and engage.
