I invite people to gather with an intent to recover the unhurried
simplicity of human connection through the radically ordinary act of
sharing a meal. Having received a legacy of hospitality in my own life, I
extend an invitation, welcoming others into moments of unhurriedness,
comfort, and warmth—a haven from the busyness and fast pace of life.
Intentionally gathering around the table serves as an act of resistance
against the incessant drive toward efficiency and productivity
prevailing in today’s society. Building upon prior socially-engaged
artists, I subvert the current cultural norms of individualism and
isolation hoping to elicit a desire for meaningful connections—to
inspire others towards the potential transformative valuing of human
connection through social sculpting. Each moment of curated
commensality—the practice of eating together—becomes a generative act,
inspiring iterations of additional shared meals, revealing abundant
fodder for artistic expression and documentation. Like a warm blanket on
a cold day, the act of eating food together is a timeless, universally
shared need. It is a common thread transcending mere nourishment,
becoming a beautiful exchange of shared experiences and conversation—a
balm for the soul.
