Magpie’s House is an installation of the tiny home of a tiny person named Magpie. Made of mostly found and recycled materials, the home is a reflection of what a tiny person would be able to do living in a human sized world. This project serves as a way to explore how scale changes the relationship between body and object, how miniature worlds offer a reevaluation of what is familiar, and how to tell a story about a person through only the design of their living space. The house structure, rocks, and dirt ground are made by hand. Objects within the home have been gathered from humans and repurposed, offering a new context. Magpie’s absence allows a focus on exploring how to convey someone’s personality through their home. The installation gives a snapshot of Magpie’s life while they’re elsewhere, with interpretation of who lives there left up to the viewer. The house invites the viewer to move around and peer in through the windows as an act of curiosity, as if you just stumbled upon it. A video projection is included in the installation to provide context and a connection between the gallery setting and the piece itself.
