Phoebe’s Rock Index is an archive of people’s anonymously submitted flaws and eccentricities, each represented by a rock. The project’s goal is to take two-toned
traits that ordinarily don’t get appreciated and put them into a formal environment to elevate them. The rocks photographed in the physical books are put on podiums and
lit up to highlight everyday overlooked rocks, in the same way the exhibit appreciates the often overlooked parts of our personality.

The concept for this project is driven by noticing that everyone has unique traits that may not be commonly reinforced but are precious parts of who we are. The
choice to use rocks was a comedic take on gemstones and crystals commonly getting featured in museums and settings of reverence, and instead using ordinary,
everyday found rocks.

Phoebe utilized photogrammetry to bring the rocks into larger-than-life, rotating projections of the high-quality meshes to accompany the physical book. This project
also exemplified Phoebe’s ability to design a completed, usable revivalist typeface for use in the book’s design system. The exhibition experience allowed her to design
an environment that highlights the connectedness of the printed book and final 3d rock scans.

The exhibition entailed flip-throughs of the designed book pages, printed copies, projections of the rocks’ 3d meshes slowly rotating, the featured rocks on colorfully
lit plinths, and a discussion and analysis of design choices made.
